Bless Me Ultima Chapter IX Outline

Paraphrase:
This chapter begins with a dream. In his dream he is faced with the
scenario of entering Rosie's (a whore house) with his brothers. One
by one his brother's entered, each coaxing him. He said if he is to
be a priest he can not think such evil thoughts, but Leon said that
every man needs a woman, and even priests are men. Andrew (the one
most like his mother) said that he would not enter until Antonio lost
his innocence. Then it is questioned what innocence is. He awakes to
the conversation of his brothers telling their father they must
leave, but Andrew decides to stay. Andrew walks Antonio to school
before going to work. On their way to school they race across the
bridge, but were beaten by the Vitamin Kid. Andrew out of breath
tells his younger brother that "Someday you will beat him, Tony.
Someday you'll beat us all-" I do not know what that means. He asks
Samuel where the Vitamin Kid lived, and Samuel claimed they were
brothers. The following pages talk about several incidents during the
school year, a pissing contest, George who could burp at will, a
pissing contest, and some other stuff. Antonio has been promoted two
grades due to his quick learning. He is now in the same class as
Horse, Bones, and the rest of his gang. On his way home Samuel and
him go fishing. While they are fishing Samuel tells him stories about
the origin of carp, and to make a short story even shorter; when the
humans on the planet ticked of the Gods instead of killing them on
God suggested to turn them into carp. After realizing all the new
dangers that he bestowed on the unfortunate people, he asked the Gods
to turn him into a carp to, so he could keep an eye on them. They
agreed so now he is a golden carp who is still around today. That is
why it's a sin to catch carp, and a bigger one to eat them. This
makes Antonio wonder if his family has been praying to the wrong God.

Techniques:
  · Foreshadowing (how unusual) is an issue on page 75, when the
    vitamin kid is running by he calls Antonio the "giant's killer".
    It could be in reference to when Antonio through Horse, but horse
    is no giant. We are led to believe that the Vitamin Kid is a
    couple cards short of a full deck (that means a little crazy),
    but I think his name for Antonio has deeper meaning.
  · When Antonio skipped a grade we know that he will become closer
    friends with his crew. That's frighteningly obvious.
  · A few more references to him becoming a priest, but what else is
    new.
