Page 131 All Gaul was divided into three parts, one of which Belgiums inhabit, Aquitani another, the third part, those inhabit who in their language are called the Celts, but in our language are called Gaul. All of these people differ among themselves in languages, culture and laws. The Garonne River separates the Gaul from the Aquiteni, the montrona and the Sweqana divide the Gallis from Belgis. Of all the people the Belgians are the strongest, because they are the farthest away from the civilization. The merchants come the least often, and of those things least often do they import those things that pertain turning the soul weak. They are the nearest to the Germans, who live across the Rhine River, with whom they are const- antly at war. For this reason the Helvetians also surpassed the rest of the Gaul's in courage because they fight with the Germans with almost daily battles. Since they are either keeping then from their territory, or waging war on their [German's] territory.
